Our Nations of Others: Creative Reactions to Enrique's Journey

Enrique’s Journey photographer Don Bartletti visits UW-Madison to celebrate Our Nations of Others

As part of this year’s Go Big Read program, UW-Madison has organized Our Nations of Others, a literary and artistic competition calling for creative works inspired by Enrique’s Journey.  Below is the list of the Our Nations of Others activities that will take place on campus, coinciding with the visit of Enrique’s Journey photographer Don Bartletti.  All events are free and open to the public.

Juried Exhibit: Our Nations of Others
March 14-30, Multicultural Student Center Gallery, Red Gym, 716 Langdon Street
Featuring selected literary and artistic works submitted to this competition.

Brown Bag Discussion: Borders, Immigration and Photo Journalism
Monday, March 19, noon-1 pm, Nafziger Room, 5th floor Vilas Hall
Campus colleagues join Enrique’s Journey photographer Don Bartletti for discussion.

Awards and Keynote Address: Our Nations of Others
Tuesday, March 20, 7-9 pm, On Wisconsin Room, Red Gym, 716 Langdon Street
Awards for winning submissions to the Our Nations of Others competition, featuring a presentation by special guest Don Bartletti.

Photography Exhibit: “Bound to El Norte”
March 1-30, Ebling Library, 2nd floor Health Sciences Learning Center, 750 Highland Avenue
Photos from Don Bartletti’s 2003-Pulitzer-prize-winning series illustrating the dangerous journeys many Central American immigrants endure on their way north to the United States.

The jury will award a $200 gift certificate for the University Book Store to the top work in each category. The jury is comprised of:
